EP-1000 FAQs

Q: What is the EP-1000?

A: The EP-1000 is an FDA approved network color medical imager that uses dye-diffusion technology to create images that truly rival conventional color photographic film. Sits on a desktop; weighs: 29 lbs. or 13 kg.

Q: What media types can the EP-1000 print?

A: EP-1000 prints on ChromaVista Paper in both A- (letter) and A-4 (international letter) sizes.

Q: Does the EP-1000 require a ribbon?

A: The EP-1000 uses dye-diffusion technology that requires a ribbon. The ribbon easily snaps into a ribbon carrier that is loaded into the top of the printer.

Q: Can the EP-1000 print film or transparency?

A: The EP-1000 is a color paper printer and it does not print film.

Q: Is the EP-1000 media the same as the NP Series or earlier EP Series Printers?

A: The EP-1000 media is unique and not compatible with any other Codonics printer.

Q: Does EP-1000 have a driver for Windows NT 4?

A: The EP-1000 does have a driver for Windows NT 4 and it can be found in Drivers.

Q: Does EP-1000 have a driver for Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows ME, or Macintosh?

A: The EP-1000 does not have drivers for Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows ME or Macintosh.

Q: What is the USB port on the EP-1000 used for?

A: Although there is a USB port on your EP-1000, it is not operational and will not work.

Q: Is the EP-1000 a network printer?

A: The EP-1000 is a network printer. It ships with an Ethernet adaptor that fits on the 32-pin port on the rear of the printer.

Q: Is there a Quick Reference Guide for EP-1000?

A: The EP-1000 installation instructions are very detailed. It is an unusual installation and dissimilar from other Codonics products, so please follow them carefully.

Q: The EP-1000 gives me the following error: "REG OPEN KEY EX FAILED".

A: Should you see a "Reg Open Key Ex Failed" error on your EP-1000, change the name of the printer so that it is eight (8) or fewer characters in length.

Q: I'm replacing the EP-1000 (or network adaptor). I have a link light but I cannot ping.

A: The hardware Ethernet address (MAC address) travels with the network adaptor. When you replace the network adaptor, you must register the new MAC address. Re-run the Network Module Configuration section of the printer installation procedure.

Q: How do I print across subnets?

A: In order to print across subnets with the EP-1000, the original network configuration must be done within the same subnet; however, the printer will support printing across a gateway. Please refer to the Network Module Configuration section of the driver installation document.

Q: How do I change image enhancement settings (i.e. gamma, contrast, etc.) on my EP-1000?

A: The EP-1000 provides gamma, contrast, saturation and MCM image enhancement settings. All of these settings are available through the driver. Go to Properties -> Advanced -> Printer Features on the print dialog box. To create default image enhancement settings, click the Windows Start button -> Settings -> Printers. Right-click on the Codonics EP-1000 and select Printing Preferences -> Advanced -> Printer Features. Change the appropriate settings, click OK, then OK again.
